dub narcotic sound system with french toast at the vfw in summer 2003 (i hadn't heard much of either of these bands going in seeing it and thought it was entirely awesome)
out of town (recently): dinosaur jr @ the quest, wilco, calexico, and the new amsterdams in lawrence, ks

seeing good bands, secondly - seeing friends

bands that sound the same as the band i saw last week, falsecore (see any rusty show for examples of what i'd consider falsecore, pretty much any post-hardcore with metal influence, however some shows have exceptions to this, this is just a personal preference in music i like so nothing could obviously be done about what people like and don't like in general)
i don't like scenester donut wholes who are there to show off the latest trends in "scene" clothing and fashion, it should be about the music first if you ask me.
i don't like people who have ego problems about their band and how cool they think they appear to other people.

indie rock (mostly older indie rock from the 80's and early 90's, but some new stuff as well a lot of stuff on SST and stuff on Dischord) the bay area punk rock and the midwest punk rock, actual emo (old emo), gainsville punk rock (all these sort of tie together)

Battle at Sea, with Any Day and Final Fight a close 2nd (When Something Fails my favorite of all time)

A,B,D (however not knowing the bands I dont think is a reason to not go, I can understand not liking any of the bands though, yet I still will go to some shows I dont like all the bands at just to support the scene and theres ussualy a couple bands there I dig)

Do you think shows cost too much? god no, $5 is a steal compared to other places. $10 is pushing it for mostly local bands and anything above $15 that isnt a package tour or something is ridiculous.

What are things you like about shows? seeing friends, sometimes discovering bands, the feeling you get when you know you're helping a band out who are touring out of their pockets

Which of the following would be a reason to not go to a show? definitely if i dont like the bands i wont go, if i dont know them and have money i might give them a chance. and yes if there is a billiards show that costs more than $10 then that is ridiculous and im not going. if it is spendy and i dont have enough money then ill give them what i have, they can take it or leave it (side note, if you are denied entry to a show because you dont have enough money, but are offering to give them what you have, i think that is grounds for skull beatings)

to certain promoters, bringing bands here with $2000 guarantees (or some other outrageous number, you get the idea) is not a smart move, especially if you're doing a billiards/vfw show. over the top cover charges are not cool. let playmakers handle that crowd.
